When I started this class I did not know much about evaluation of art at all. I didn't understand the importance of theme and how important that could be into creating a rich and meaningful piece of artwork. Criticising was just saying if a piece of work was just "good" or "bad". I was not comfortable judging other peoples work because I did not want to hurt their feelings or something like that. I would not how to know if the artwork was actually meaningful or thought through a lot. In conclusion, I was not very conscious of how to know if a piece of artwork was good quality or not.
1b. How has your understanding of art criticism changed during art 1? How has the way you use art criticism when you make or view art changed during the class?
When I first started art 1, I was awful at criticising artwork correctly so I have changed quite a lot. I now know that criticising art is more about meaning put behind the artwork and the thoughts it puts through your head. All artwork should have a strong theme and that artwork should be criticized to see if the artwork fits to that theme. Criticism helps me improve my artwork by thinking of how others will see my work, not just what I see. I think this really improved my artwork.
2a. What are some important or useful things you learned in art 1?
In art 1 I have learned so much about how to make artwork, How to criticize art, and the importance of themes. I also learned How to work on artwork for your identity and how it can express yourself. I learned how to do value drawing and how shading on objects work. I also learned how to work in many different mediums such as colored pencil, normal pencil, acrylic paint, and clay.
2b. What would you add or change to make it a better learning experience?
If i could change this class or add something to it I would probably not change this class very much because it was really good overall. I would probably add more units to do more artwork. This way i could end the class with a lot of pieces of art. I would also like to have maybe a unit where we focus completely on one medium. that way we could learn that medium very well.
